Bartlesville aqua-titians swamp competition at home pool meet

Reaping a reward of 15 first-place finishes the Bartlesville High School swim teams dived with winning intent into their first meet of the calendar year.
Broken Arrow, Booker T. Washington and Wesleyan Christian School aqua-titians joined the 2025 coming-out party at the Adams Pool in downtown Bartlesville on Tuesday (Jan. 7).
In the girls competition, Addison Howze and Ashlynn Taylor powered to three championships apiece — Howze in the 50 free, 500 free and 200 medley relay; and Taylor in the 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke and 200 freestyle relay.
Bartlesville — which is coached by Chad Englehart — won eight of the 11 girls events and placed second in two others.
In addition to Howze and Taylor, Anna Young won two events (200 free, 200 free relay).
Annabelle Droege confiscated Bartlesville’s other girls individual championship (100 free).
On the boys side, Bartlesville seized five championships — including sweeping all the relays (200 medley, 200 free, 400 free).
Parker Shoesmith and Camden McDonald both swarmed to four championships — Shoesmith in the 200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke, 200 medley relay and 200 medley freestyle; Camden McDonald in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 400 freestyle relay.
Travis Lief added three first-place showings (100 backstroke, 200 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay).
Bruins helping win two freestyles apiece were Ethan Peterson (200 medley, 400 freestyle) and Luke Olsen (200 medley relay, 400 freestyle relay).

Other specific highlights from the meet include:
— Young winning the girls 200 freestyle by more than 10 seconds.
— Bartlesville girls flocked to the greatness in the 100 butterfly — winning the first four places (Taylor, Addison Williams, Anna Wells, Calli Richards).
— Wesleyan Christian School’s Sam Conrad bolted to first place in the boys 100 butterfly (:55.0) and second in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.32).
— The Bruin quartet of Lief, McDonald, Peterson and Olen crushed their opposition in the boys 400 freestyle relay by almost 12 seconds.
— The Bruins swept first, second and third in the boys 100 backstroke (Lief, Peterson and Grayson Ellie).
— In the girls’ 500 freestyle, Bartlesville rang up the first three places — Howze, Young and Gabrielle Burke.
— Lady Bruin Anna Wells swam a season best time in the girls 100 butterfly (1:05.43) by more than two seconds and in the girls 200 individual medley (2:29.96) by nearly four seconds.
— Bruin freshman Grayson Ellis improved by nearly four seconds his time in the boys 200 freestyle (1:59.73).
— For the first time this season Bruin senior Ethan Peterson broke the 1:00 barrier in the boys 100 backstroke (:58.96).
