Bartlesville Area Sports Report

Two meets, no losses.

That’s the kind of math any sports team treasures.

Speaking of treasures, the Bartlesville High School swimming teams have been piling up a profusion of golden performances.

On Tuesday (Nov. 12), the host Bartlesville squads both swept their slate of multi-foes, including Putnam City North, Enid, Wesleyan Christian and Bishop Kelley, at the Phillips Aquatic Center.

On the boys side, Bartlesville outscored its opponents, 477-150, while the Lady Bruins broomed the girls teams (which didn’t include Wesleyan Christian), 421-69.

Veteran Bartlesville head swim coach Chad Englehart praised his team’s strong surge into the season.

“I’ve been most happiest with the team attitude,” he explained. “I was frustrated with them in early October (during preseason practice) because I didn’t think they were embracing the championship culture. I really got after them a lot and I’m really happy with how they’ve responded the last three weeks.”

The Bruins finished as state runner-ups and the Lady Bruins won the girls state title last season.

Following are more details about Tuesday’s victories:

__________

LADY BRUINS

Ten of the team’s 16 members finished first in either relay or individual races.

Leading the way with three championships each were five swimmers: Annabelle Droege (200 individual medley, 100 free, 200 free relay); Addison Howze (100 fly, 100 back, 400 free relay); Calli Richards (50 free, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay); Ashlynn Taylor (100. breast, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay); and Addison Williams (200 medley relay, 400 free relay).

Contributing one title apiece were: Daisy Droege (400 free relay); Cara Moore (200 free relay); Macie Stapleton (200 medley relay); Abby Wells (400 free relay); and Anna Wells (500 free).

Through two meets Howze has powered to first place finishes in four different individual events (100 free, 200 free, 100 back and 100 fly) and two relays (200 free and 400 free) for a total of six championships.

The Lady Bruins dominated the girls 100 breaststroke field by finishing in the top four places. They duplicated the dominance in the 200 individual medley.

__________

BRUINS

Travis Lief tore past the field in two individual events (500 free, 100 back).

He was the lone Bartlesville to capture three boys’ individual crowns (500 free, 100 back, 400 free relay).

Recording two championships apiece were: Camden McDonald (100 free, 400 free relay), Anthony Mann (200 free, 200 free relay) and Parker Shoesmith (200 individual medley, 200 free relay).

Boasting one title each were Zane Deal (400 free relay), Aysen Offutt (200 free relay), Luke Olsen (200 free relay) and Blace Williams (400 free relay).

In one week, McDonald improved his time in the 100 freestyle by nearly two full seconds.

The Bruins finished one, two and three in the 100 backstroke and 500 freestyle.

__________

SAM CONRAD & OTHERS

As Wesleyan Christian School’s lone competitor Conrad made some thunderous noise.

He beat the field in the boys 100 butterfly (:53.70) by nearly four seconds.

He also surged to second place in the boys 100 breaststroke (1:01.24), losing by less than one-tenth of a second to Bishop Kelley’s Jacob Hoang.

Other non-Bartlesville winners included Enid’s Carson Nault (boys 50 freestyle), Bishop Kelley’s 200 medley relay team (Patrick Berg, Hoang, Maurizio Carbonell and Michael Neff) and Bishop Kelley’s Penny Cermak (girls 200 freestyle),

Bartlesville High School's Annabelle Droege participates in the Girls 100 Yard Butterfly during the Bruins' hosted meet on Tuesday (Nov. 12).
