CANEY VALLEY BASEBALL
It’s been a season of challenge and character for the Caney Valley Trojans as they’ve struggled with a shorter-than-usual roster.
Even so, the Trojans still have seized several wins, including two during the weekend at the Nowata tourney.
CANEY VALLEY 6, NOWATA 5 — Bryor Bonde collected the pitching win with Elijah Davis as his catcher.
But the effort had something left to be desired, according to head coach Andy Fox.
“We didn’t hit very well,” he said. “We pitched pretty good and stayed patient. It was not a great game. … Nowata pitching ran out and they started walking people.”
Bonde singled home a Trojan run in the third inning, Fox said.
CANEY VALLEY 1, CHELSEA 0 — Pitcher Logan Horsman “did a fantastic job,” Fox said.
Horsman struck out nine batters.
Offensively, “we did just enough to get a run across,” Fox said.
Bruno Cardenas scored the decisive win.

DEWEY BASEBALL
Warrior spirit continues to define the Bulldogger march toward through a potentially exceptional season.
ADAIR 7, DEWEY 6 — The Doggers suffered a rare loss after Adair won in walk-off fashion.
Parker Garrison delivered the noisiest blow for Dewey by clubbing a two-run homer in the top of the fifth.
Levi Wilson also recorded two RBI. Nathan Sloan and Layne Gastel each drove in one run.
Sloan finished 3-for-4 and stole a base. Easton Davis added a steal and reached base as a hit batsman.
Sloan scored in the top of the sixth to nudge Dewey into the lead, 6-5.
But Adair pulled out the win on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the inning.
Wilson pitched most the way for Dewey and amassed three strikeouts in four innings. Karson Johnson finished up in relief and suffered the setback.
Kyler Green socked a solo homer for Adair and Z. Nichols plated two runs.
DEWEY 4, LOCUST GROVE 2 — Sloan doubled, singled and drove in three runs to fuel the offense. Wilson plated Dewey’s other run.
Eddie Rice greased the offensive machine with a sacrifice bunt while Garrison, Wilson and Davis each stole a base.
In the bottom of the fifth, Dewey powered into the lead, thanks mostly to Sloan’s double and Levi Wilson’s walk.
Cooper Wood snapped off a complete-game six hitter with seven strikeouts.
Jeremiah Mcnatt was tagged with the pitching loss. Cayson King and Ryan Summers both registered a RBI for Locust Grove.
Dewey (12-6) finished last weekend off by edging Jay, 8-7, on the final day of the Adair Festival.
Next up, Dewey travels Tuesday to Keys (Parkhill) for a doubleheader. On Thursday the Doggers open play in the Northeast Valley Conference Festival.

OKLAHOMA UNION BASEBALL
The Cougars continued last week to turn March into their own winning playground — mostly.
After starting out with two wins in the Nowata tourney — 23-0 against Oaks Mission and 11-1 against the Collinsville jayvee — the Cougars (10-2) suffered a rugged loss against Claremore-Sequoyah, 6-5.
The defeat snapped a nine-game winning streak.
Oklahoma Union plays host Monday and Tuesday to Copan and Wyandotte, respectively.
__________
NOWATA BASEBALL
The Ironmen finally nailed down their first win following an 0-10 start.
On Friday they knocked off Oaks Mission, 1-0, at the Nowata tourney.
Caney Valley edged Nowata, 6-5, on Saturday.
Nowata will close out its March schedule with a roadtrip Monday to Pawnee.
Starting Thursday they will begin play in the Northeast Valley Conference Festival.
__________
PAWHUSKA BASEBALL
Following two huge wins early in the week, the Huskies (5-6) finished up with losses Friday to Kellyville, 10-3, and to Davenport, 9-8 (extra innings), in the Stroud tourney.
Pawhuska opens this week at Caney Valley on Monday and hosts Caney Valley on Tuesday.
