DEWEY BASEBALL
Easton Davis and Brayden Ringer provided a big part of the brawn and pitcher Levi Wilson was spot on to help power the Bulldoggers to a 15-2 thrashing Thursday of Oologah to open the Sperry tourney.
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for Dewey (5-2), which is coached by Riley Allen.
Davis whacked the ‘hide for a double and single and drove in four runs in the leadoff spot while eight-hole hitter Ringer rang up a single and three RBI.
Wilson closed down Oologah’s offense like a snow cone stand at the North Pole. He allowed just five hits and no walks on 52 pitches. He also struck out three while Chase Miller handled catching duties.
Other major contributors at the plate included Nathan Sloan with three hits and two RBIs, and Parker Garrison with a single and two RBIs. Miller and Jay Murguia also drove in a run apiece. Murguia also scored three runs, followed by Sloan, Layne Gastel and Kade Lackey with two apiece.
Dewey surged to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first, fueled by two-run stingers by Ringer and Sloan.
Davis delivered the biggest belt — a three-run double in the bottom of the third.
Next up, Dewey is set to face on Friday the Tulsa NOAH Jaguars in the Sperry semifinals.

COPAN BASEBALL
The Copan Hornets felt both the sting of close defeat and the ecstasy of soaring victory during a three-way round-robin Thursday at Oaks.
HULBERT 3, COPAN 1 — Unbeaten Hulbert (5-0) outlasted the Hornets (2-3) in the fiercest battle of the day.
Copan pitcher Shooter Brewington unleashed a complete-game gem, including seven strikeouts. But the Copan offense just didn’t get into its groove to take advantage of Brewington’s mound mastery. The Hornets didn’t even own a hit.
Brewington also scored Copan’s run — reaching base as a hit batsman, advancing on fielder’s choices and bounding home on a passed ball.
“We weren’t blown out of the water,” noted veteran Copan head coach Daniel Wren. “All-in-all it was an okay day. We’re getting better every day. It’s been real challenging at times, but we’re seeing some glimmers of hope.”
COPAN 14, OAKS 0 — The Hornets hammered the ball like a lumberjack crew to drop Oaks on its homefield. Rocky Thomas chopped up Oaks pitching with two singles and a walk.
“We were happy for him because he’s been struggling at the plate,” said Wren.
Copan led only 3-0 through three innings. But in the fourth inning Brewington lashed a leadoff double “and the floodgates opened,” Wren said. Brewington finished with two hits.
Josh Thomas reached base four times — a double, single and two walks.
Josh Thomas also weaved together a complete-game pitching showcase, with Zane Agnew as his receiver. The pair combined on the shutout and eight strikeouts.
Agnew hunkered down at catcher in both games — his first start of the year in the position.
“I thought that (the shutout against Oaks) was pretty big for him,” Wren said, adding Agnew displayed some good fundamentals as the receiver, although there is room for improvement.
“He didn’t make any bad mistakes, Wren added.
Copan is slated to play host Friday to Nowata.
