Balanced offense, boisterous defense, bodacious team chemistry.
The WCS Mustangs have weaved together those three elements to create a conglomeration of conquering confluence.
Friday’s victory was an example of why the Mustangs have surged to a 19-3 record and are rounding the next turn on a dead run toward the postseason horizon.
Eleven different Mustangs scored — led by Hank Siemers, 14; Zander Week, 13; Trey White, 13; and Kyle Kelley, nine.
Meanwhile, WCS held an opponent to less than 35-or-fewer points for the fifth-straight game and 15th overall.
WCS 76, FOYIL 23: White ripped the nets for 25 points, followed by Siemers and Kelley with 10 apiece during a victory earlier last week.
“We had a lot of really good help defense,” said WCS head coach Steven Cooks. “We were flying around and got a lot of deflections. … We moved as one unit.” — By Mike Tupa

Make that four wins in a row!
Despite a slow start — due to Senior Night distractions — the WCS Lady Mustangs (14-8) rode the sizzling shooting of Lydia Foster (25 points) and Kori White (10 points) to the victory.
“We really picked it up in the second half,” said WCS head coach Kendall Huntington. “We started playing harder.”
Miranda Hadrava and Whitlie Tennison added six points each.
Huntington added she felt compelled to praise Hadrava for her defensive effort.
“She locked down one of their top players,” she said.
Seniors in the starting lineup included Foster, Brianna Holley and Keziah Beu.
WCS 43, FOYIL 18: Foster poured in a career-high 32 points, followed by Hadrava, four; Tennison, three; Emily Christenson, two; and White, two.
“Our offense started playing more physical and rebounding and getting steals,” said Huntington. “We started playing better as a team.” — By Mike Tupa

The Nowata County rivalry between Oklahoma Union and Nowata always draws a crowd. The Ironmen won 60-36 in a packed home gym last Friday, a stark contrast to their three-point victory last month at OKU.
“This is such a fun rivalry,” said Nowata head coach Derrick Ott. “Our towns and schools look forward to it.”
Nowata led at halftime, 25-16 and was able to pull away in the final quarters, outscoring the Cougars 35-20.
“Defensively we did what we've done all year and our offense finally clicked like I've been hoping,” said Ott. “We shot the ball well and finished around the rim.”
Nowata’s Talen Thompson led all scorers with 22 points, followed by teammate Adrian O’Dell with 13. Other Nowata scorers were Clint Harrington, 10; Ryan Walton, eight; and Chelo Prince, seven.
