BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT
It’s that time of year for Oklahoma high school basketball.
Yep — February Frenzy.
In the next three days — depending on whether weather forces schedule changes — several area teams will charge into the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) district playoffs.
For Class 2A teams, this weekend is just a play-in game into the regional round next week. District champions will enter the regionals in the winners’ bracket; district runner-ups will fall to the regional losers’ bracket.
For Class B and Class A teams, this weekend could be a season dead-end unless they win at least one game.
Class 3A teams won’t open the playoffs until the weekend of Feb. 21.
A total of eight area teams will be participating in the district playoffs — Copan (Class B), Wesleyan Christian School (Class A), Barnsdall (Class A), Caney Valley (Class 2A), Nowata (Class 2A), Oklahoma Union (Class 2A), Pawhuska (Class 2A) and Dewey (Class 3A).
A full opening-round schedule appears at the end of the article.
The only area teams with homecourt advantage this weekend are Pawhuska and Nowata.
Playing close to home will be Copan (at South Coffeyville) and Caney Valley (at Nowata).
The Wesleyan Christian boys and Pawhuska girls each own the best record (20-3) of any area teams entering the OSSAA postseason.
Copan, Wesleyan Christian School and Barnsdall teams each need to win their first district game in order to advance to the regional.
Bartlesville High School teams won’t know until next week their playoff schedules.
Following is a first-round postseason slate for all area teams Class 3A or smaller:
