The Copan Lady Hornets snapped out of their slump with a much-needed 46-28 victory over the Newkirk jayvee Monday (Jan. 13) at the Cherokee tournament.

Elyzabeth Odum led the way with 19 points and 8 steals. Zoey Secondine scored 12 points, followed by Kam Van with 5.

“This was much needed,” said head coach Kristy Bryan. “We need to take this confidence into our next games and continue to improve.”

Despite a narrow 38-35 loss to Buffalo in the second round on Saturday (Jan. 11), coach Bryan felt the Lady Hornets had done enough to win.

"We probably should have come away with a win,” said Bryan. “This has been a tough season. We keep stressing about the season getting better, but at the same time competing.”

Odum had 11 points, with Van scoring 8.

The Lady Hornets fell to Garber (No. 14 in Class A) in the first round, 72-32 on Thursday (Jan. 9)

Odum once again led the way, scoring 17. Secondine scored 8, followed by Kaylee Woodworth with 4.

The Dewey Lady Bulldoggers (3A) turned in a respectable performance at the Oologah tournament, despite a couple of losses, including a tough Monday (Jan. 13) test against Class 5A Pryor.

Dewey trimmed a 15-point deficit to just three points in the final three minutes, but ultimately fell short against Pryor, 54-45.

“We just couldn’t quite take the lead,” said head coach Michael Sanders. “The fight against a 5A team is something to build on as the season moves along.”

Freshman Presley Smith led the way with 16 points, followed by C.J. Jones with 8. Mylee Garrison contributed 7 and Chanley Herren added 6.

The Lady Bulldoggers fell to tournament host Oologah, 62-36 on Saturday (Jan. 11).
