WE ALL COME FROM THE SAME SOMEWHERE

— By Michael Jerry Tupa

Look at the meanest, scruffiest man you ever knew,
and try to imagine back when he was new,
when he was just a wide-eyed, clean-skinned child,
both the pride and heartache of a mother mild

No matter what he's done since, remember
we all come from the same somewhere.

Look at the greatest, bravest hero you've seen,
a virtuous sort, who's every motive is clean,
even he has struggled through hell's desolation,
but he endured and battled to a better destination.

No matter the greatness of his soul, remember
we all come from the same somewhere.

No human really crawls out from under a rock,
each of us is governed by mortality's clock,
we all came in the world the very same way,

we'll all stop breathing at the end of our day,

No matter whether we cower or dare,
we all come from the same somewhere.

Life's triumphs or defeats are not part of a dream,
the destiny we create is more than a scheme,
everyone begins at the same starting line,
we choose whether to taste the sweet or the brine.

Whether we crawl or travel with flair,
we all come from the same somewhere.
