Bartlesville Area Sports Report

Former Bartlesville High School basketball legend David Castillo — the only true freshman on the Kansas State men’s basketball roster — has appeared in all seven Wildcat games (no starts).

He is averaging almost 10 minutes per game and has contributed nearly 2.5 ppg, including 6-of-7 shooting from the free throw line.

Castillo’s cumulative numbers include five assists and six rebounds.

He is averaging just one turnover about every 2.3 games.

During his three seasons at Bartlesville High (2020-23), Castillo amassed 1,594 points to become the program’s all-time leading career scorer while averaging about 24 points per game.

He also averaged 5.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game during his Bartlesville years.

Castillo also won two gold medals in USA Basketball (16-and-under, 17-and-under) international competition.

After committing to play for Kansas State, Castillo decided to transfer his senior season to Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas to help better prepare him for college competition.

He led Sunrise in scoring (13.2 ppt) for the 2023-24 campaign while hitting 37 percent of his three-pointers.

His older brother Antonio also starred in basketball at Bartlesville High and returned as an assistant coach during David’s years and beyond.

His oldest sister Letricia excelled as a women’s basketball player at the Air Force Academy, being named team captain for three separate seasons.

His other sister Gloria is the new head Pom Coach at Bartlesville High.

Former Bartlesville High School Bruin David Castillo grows within the Kansas State basketball team.
