Despite a galloping stomach bug and some other shortcomings, the Bartlesville High School baseball team escaped Alabama with a .500 record (2-2) in last week’s Gulf Coast Classic.
With a much welcome four-day respite, the Bruins charged back into action Monday with a home doubleheader against Northwest Classen, sweeping the Knights 22-0 and 13-0.
Later in the week, Bartlesville hosts its annual Bruin Classic.
In last week’s action in Alabama, the Bruins burst to a 2-1 record their first two days, with wins against Greenbriar (Ark.), 9-2, and Charles Henderson (Ala.), 3-1, and a loss to Oklahoma’s Wright City, 8-4.
On the final day, intestinal illness took its toll on the Bruins during an 8-1 loss to Fayette County (Ala.).
“We left a lot of guys on base,” said Bartlesville head coach Cody Price about that game. “We walked too many people. We did not play very good baseball.”
Considering the health impact — not to forget the Bruins already have been shorthanded due to injury — Price said he felt good about breaking even in Alabama.
“It was a fun trip,” he added. “But, it’s nice to be home.”
