BARTLESVILLE AREA SPORTS REPORT

A powerful Bartlesville High School track athlete has put together her own personal gold rush.

Senior comet Kadance Barnett streaked to six first-place finishes in individual events in just three meets prior to Spring Break.

Add to that four silver medal-esque showings and Barnett has won or finished runner up in 10 of the 11 individual girls events in which she has competed.

At the recent Tulsa Union Invitational, she set a personal record in the long jump (18-feet-8.5-inches) to finish first and won the high jump. She also set a season best in the 100m dash (:12.23).

Joining Barnett as Bartlesville’s other major winner this year is Wesley Turner. At the Tulsa meet, the soaring sophomore won the boys pole vault at 15-feet-9-inches — breaking his own school record (15-7). Turner flew to 1st place in the pole vault in all three pre-Break meets.

If that weren’t enough, he’s also one of Bartlesville’s top hurdlers, finishing in the top 10 in all of his competitions, including 4th in the 110m hurdles at Tulsa Union (:16.64).

Another Bruin sophomore is rewriting the so-called Murphy’s Law.

Michael Murphy’s version is that if anything can fly he’s going to launch it a long, long way.

He muscled into 2nd place at Tulsa Union in the boys discus with a prodigious propulsion of 160-feet-2-inches. Murphy has finished 2nd or 3rd in the discus at all three meets.

Sophomore Michael Taylor has sewn together an impressive early-season showing in the boys hurdles. He came in 5th in the 110m hurdles and 8th in the 300m hurdles.

Bartlesville track coach David Ayres praised the second-place showing of his girls 4x100m relay team. The squad consisted of Barnett, Evelynn Pratt, Brooke Baker and Sofia Varela.

“We made significant strides in all the sprint events,” Ayres added. “We continue to push and get better.”

During the Tulsa Union competition, several Bartlesville thinclads set significant season bests.

Some of them not already mentioned included:

— Emerson Casey and Parker Fielder both improved a full foot in the girls pole vault (9-feet-0).

— Cadence DeWitt extended her girls long jump mark by nearly a foot, from 13-feet-2-inches to 14-0.25.

— Isabella Miller heaved the shot put 18-feet-4, more than two-and-a-half feet furthest then the previous meet.

— Alayna Nightingale and Hailey Taylor both broke the 18-second barrier in the girls 100m hurdles; Nightingale also improved her time in the 300m hurdles by nearly 3 seconds.

— Reese Savage chopped an amazing 10 seconds off her time in the girls 800m run (from 2:52.89 to 2:42.65).

— Ciara Swisher also displayed impressive progress in the girls 400m run, improving her time by more than five seconds (1:04.45).

— Alexander Block went past the 100-foot mark for the first time in the boys discus (101-11).

— Fenix Bolding ran the boys 100m in less than 12 seconds (:11.91) and the boys 200m in fewer than 25 seconds (:24.9) for the first time.

— Dennis Duncan exploded to nearly 20 feet (19-6.25) in the boys long jump.

— Riley Hanson went below 12 seconds (:11.96) in the boys 100m and below 25 seconds (:24.65) in the boys 200m.

— Bryce Lee bettered his distance in the boys long jump by more than 10 inches (18-11).

— Jeremiah Russell ran the boys 400m in less than a minute (:59.38).

— Logan Young launched himself 14-feet-even in the boys pole vault.

Following are hopefully full results at Tulsa Union for Bartlesville.
